Rental Servers Guide

Rental servers are a core multiplayer infrastructure mechanic in HackHub Ultimate Hacker Simulator version 1.0, released August 1, 2026. HotBunny introduced rented boxes as tactical assets: operators rent servers from fictional registrars, use them as SSH egress points to route tool traffic through a disposable IP, and copy certificates and decoders onto them for localized openvpn, authkey, and decode operations. This guide explains the rental model, how to use rented servers as pivot points, and what changes patches applied through August 2026.

Understanding the rental model

Rented servers in 1.0 multiplayer serve three tactical purposes:

  1. Egress tunnel — route tool traffic through the rental so logs and bans hit the rental IP instead of your home line.
  2. Pivot point — launch scans and exploits from the rental’s network context, making it appear the attack originates from that box.
  3. Certificate carrier — copy certificates and decoders to the rental so certain commands run locally without requiring the original files on your machine.

Domain rental works alongside server rental: you rent a domain name from a registrar (GoDiddy or budget alternatives), point it at your rented server’s IP, and use it for hosting fictional company sites, command-and-control panels, or phishing infrastructure in multiplayer lobbies.

Renting a server (patch 1.0.12+)

Patch 1.0.12 (August 5, 2026) formalized the domain rental model:

  • Rental terms — rent by day or month (not year-only) with clear renewal dates.
  • Lapsed state — domains and servers that expire enter a lapsed state; the Renew button restores access.
  • Live catalog pricing — storefront prices match checkout; no hidden fees.
  • Registrar differences — GoDiddy vs budget registrars affect cost and feature sets.

SSH into rented and shared boxes

Patch 1.0.14 (August 6, 2026) enabled SSH access to rented servers:

  • Hold an SSH shell on a rental and traffic from tools you launch routes through that box.
  • Access logs, surveillance, and ban fiction land on the rental instead of your home line.
  • SSH into another operator’s rented server using credentials they share — access lasts for the session.
  • FTP works from File Gorilla or the terminal into your own rental or someone else’s.
  • The ftp command reaches real multiplayer hosts (previously limited to single-player queues).

Certificates and decoders on rentals (patch 1.0.16+)

Patch 1.0.16 (August 8, 2026) added support for certificates and decoders copied onto rented servers:

  • Certificates, decoders, and loot copied onto a rented box now work from that box.
  • openvpn, authkey, appraise, and decode run locally on the rental.
  • Selling and laundering still require the original files on your own machine.
  • If a copy drifts out of sync with the source, tools prompt you to copy again instead of failing silently.

This means you can carry certificate-based authentication from your home machine onto a rental for the session without permanently transferring ownership.

Rental egress in multiplayer

Rented server egress is a key stealth technique in competitive multiplayer lobbies:

  1. Rent a server and note its IP.
  2. SSH into the rental and establish a shell.
  3. Launch nmap, Metasploit, or other tools from that shell context.
  4. Logs and detection artifacts appear tied to the rental, not your home connection.
  5. If the rental is banned or traced, abandon it and rent a new one.

This workflow parallels real-world operational security: disposable infrastructure that cannot be traced to your origin.

Domain rental workflow

For phishing or hosting fictional company panels:

  1. Rent a domain from a registrar in the game world.
  2. Point the domain at your rented server IP.
  3. Configure the rental to serve your fictional content.
  4. Use the domain in social engineering emails or as a command-and-control address.
  5. If the domain lapses, renew or abandon based on mission needs.

Limitations

  • Rentals are session-scoped in multiplayer; they do not persist across different lobby sessions.
  • Selling and laundering require original files on your machine — certificates on rentals do not enable these operations.
  • Expired rentals enter a lapsed state until renewed; check renewal dates before long operations.

Rental servers reward operators who treat multiplayer as a persistent operational environment — disposable infrastructure is a feature, not a bug.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common HackHub questions.

How do rental servers work in HackHub multiplayer?

Rent a server from in-game registrars, SSH into it, and route tool traffic through the rental so logs and bans hit the rental IP instead of your home line.

Can I SSH into another player's rented server?

Yes. Patch 1.0.14 enabled SSH access to shared rental credentials for the session.

What can I run from certificates copied onto a rental?

openvpn, authkey, appraise, and decode work locally on the rental. Selling and laundering still need original files on your machine.

How long do rentals last?

Rent by day or month with renewal dates. Lapsed rentals enter a suspended state until renewed.

Did patches change the rental model?

Patch 1.0.12 added daily/monthly rental terms and live pricing. 1.0.14 enabled SSH and FTP to rentals. 1.0.16 added certificate support on rentals.
